The cost of electricity

When calculating the cost of electricity, the unit is kilowatt-hours (kWh). This refers to the amount of electrical energy used. So, one kWh would be the amount of electrical energy used by a 1 kW appliance left on for 1 hour.  

To calculate how many units have been used, the same equation as above can be used but the units need to be changed. So for time, you would need to convert seconds to hours, and for power you would need to convert watts to kW. The output of the equation would then be in kWh rather than J.  

The kWh can then be multiplied by the cost per unit to find out how much the electricity costs.
